This role is an exciting opportunity to lead Change.org’s Brand Campaigning team in Germany - managing an operation to successfully amplify powerful stories of petition starters, in the media and across digital channels, to inspire audiences to engage and start their own campaigns.
You will be developing an ambitious media and marketing strategy for the brand in Germany, developing relationships across both media and digital platforms, in order to increase awareness and affinity with key audiences. You will manage a team who are dedicated to storytelling to increase brand engagement, from pitching stories to the media, identifying trends with a multi-channel approach to reach key audiences. You will be nimble and iterate the strategy, analyzing team delivery and adjusting tactics to improve performance to our goals. You will be responsible for management and execution of communications and campaigns marketing strategy within Germany.
A bit about Change.org: we’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest social change platform, with 100 million monthly users, over 50,000 campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour. Just like Michelle, a young mother whose petition to the Federal Minister for Health got over 1 million signatures, landed in the Bundestag and reversed a law that would have dramatically reduced the budget for midwives in Germany. Change.org petitions have a huge impact on people’s lives in Germany and globally.
Manage a small squad of campaigners within the Brand Campaigning function to support compelling petitions and movements on Change.org and amplify them through media.
Organize team processes to center compelling issues and news stories that could develop into brand-driving movements on Change.org.
Elevate the team needs to the Group’s leadership and set a team-level culture of hard work, experimentation, adaptability, and fun.
Media and Brand:
Manage your squad’s portfolio of petitions. Divide work to support petition starters to optimize their campaigns, implement smart tactics, reach decision makers, organize digital and in-person tactics, etc. Lead on the storytelling of these impact moments to Change.org users and a wider media audience.
Develop media strategies to drive impact and brand awareness around campaigns in Germany. Help upskill your team members to be able to drive media with little support and oversight.
Build and maintain relationships with media, organizations, activists, and community leaders in key issue areas to facilitate the use of our platform for social change. Act as a spokesperson for Change.org in Germany when needed.
Collaborate with other functional leads to hone a global brand strategy, contributing to department strategy, goals and culture.

Campaigning and Communications:
You have your finger on the pulse of what people across Germany are talking about online, in politics, and traditional media. You have a good understanding of the current social justice, economic, political and environmental issues facing Germany.
You have a strong network with journalists, activists and decision makers in Germany.
You are an expert in written and oral communication. You have an insightful understanding of messaging and framing, and the judgment to repeatedly find the right message to engage Change.org users, decision makers, journalists and other stakeholders. You can draft a compelling copy in a short amount of time.
You have a strong background in media/ PR or journalism, and come with innovative ideas to turn campaigns into powerful stories in the media and inspire new audiences.
You have strong media skills, you know how to make a highly effective pitch and to develop a media strategy that would gain attention of decision makers and the public.
You are willing to work across difference, including providing support to policy-compliant campaigns that you may not agree with but align with Change.org’s commitment to being an open platform. You are committed to our mission of empowering people to win campaigns on what is important to them.
You have a can-do, positive attitude, are self-motivated and keen to learn. You thrive working in a fast paced and data-informed news or tech environment, and are willing to take risks, fail, learn and adapt.
You are low-ego and you’ve got a strong sense of fun and give-and-take -- our small team is constantly pushing each other to challenge assumptions, go all-in, and imagine the impossible.
4-5 years of experience across one or more of the following: campaigning, media, comms, brand, public relations, advocacy
1-2 years of management experience of managing a team of at least 2 persons
German professional proficiency (not less than C1)
