Change.org is searching for a Media Campaigner to bring media experience to the US team and directly drive coverage of campaigns on Change.org in the US.

We’re a social impact business (a public benefit company), and the world's largest nonprofit-owned tech platform focused on civic action with 100m monthly users, 50,000+ campaigns launched on the site every month, and a 100% user-generated revenue model. Our users win campaigns for change once every hour.

From mobilizing over 5 million people to stop the Willow Project oil pipeline, to large-scale campaigns for the people of Iran and against the war in Ukraine, and calling for racial justice in the US, many movements were born on Change.org. Dozens of local, national, and international victories are happening every day thanks to the strength of our members who are changing the lives of people around the world. We want to help them go even further and we need your help!

Le job

As a Media Campaigner, you will:

Directly contribute to rigorous goals around media hits and impressions by supporting campaigns in the US market.
Use media to drive campaign impact, victory, and brand awareness; including pitching to press, building reporter lists, and offering media training to petition starters.
Work with petition organizers and team to build campaign escalation strategies (including digital and in-person tactics); engage decision makers to elicit official responses to campaigns targeting them; tell these stories of impact directly to Change.org users and through media.
Be on top of compelling issues and news stories to identify the right moment to pitch petitions. Help find organizers to lead campaigns and movements that have high potential to drive brand awareness.

Profil

Core competencies needed to be successful in the role:

Strong media skills, including experience working with and pitching to journalists, participating in media strategies that gain the attention of key stakeholders, and using media to build brand affinity.
Proven track record of landing media hits, including top-tier digital and print publications.
Existing relationships with journalists that will help drive Change.org media goals.
A good understanding of the US news landscape, particularly including coverage of social justice, economic, political and environmental issues.
Willingness to work across difference, including providing support to policy-compliant campaigns that you may not agree with but align with Change.org’s commitment to being an open platform.
You have a can-do, positive attitude, are self-motivated, keen to learn, and willing to take risks, to fail, and to adapt.
You are low-ego, with a strong sense of fun and give-and-take.  You're driven by results, and you're always curious about how to improve your work.

Target experience:

You have 3 - 5 years of experience in a media-related field, with a proven track record of driving top tier coverage.
You have some informal or formal experience with grassroots campaigning or advocacy. You have causes that matter to you.
Helpful but not required: some familiarity with US government affairs.

30 min screen with a Recruiter
2 hour take home task
45 min video interview with Deputy Campaigns Director, US
60 min video interview with our Interim US Country Director and Campaigns Director, US
Important:

This is a full-time role based in the US, with a strong preference for someone in the East Coast time zone. Currently, we are mostly working remotely, with flexibility to work several days per week in a coworking space for staff who have specific requirements.
Change.org is a global company, and salaries are adjusted for cost of labor in each city. For example, the annual salary for a Media Campaigner is $90,000 USD in San Francisco or New York City, $85,500 USD in Boston or Seattle and $76,500 USD in Atlanta or Miami.
